Apparently, in the economic porklulus (stimulus) package to be voted on today, the e-verify program that can quickly verify legal status for employment is not a high priority.  I wish it wasn't necessary to have the government's snoot up everybody's rear but, in large part due to government policies, we have made it too easy to be here illegally and unassimilated.  So, I guess that program is a somewhat benign necessary evil.  Anyway, I received the following from IRON (Immigration Reform for Oklahoma Now).

Tell them: America's archaic and out-of-control immigration policies are harming America's unemployed. EVERY spending bill MUST have a mandatory e-verify requirement, otherwise the Underground Economy of over $1 Trillion dollars grows richer while citizens have no jobs and taxed more to pay for the enormous 'bailouts'.

The United States imports more than 140,000 foreign workers each month or over 1,500,000 foreign workers each year. Halt this importation, free-up jobs for the more than 10 million unemployed Americans? Creating jobs for the more than ten million out-of-work Americans should be the focus and brining in more workers is dim-witted and brainless

E-verify mandatory is the only way to get our country solvent again. Anything less only increases athe $1Trillion dollar underground economy where NO taxes are paid on that money. ENOUGH FRAUD ALREADY

Thanks to all of you whose barrage of phone calls this week made it clear to Members of the U.S. House of Representatives that their constituents will not stand for using Stimulus money to hire illegal foreign workers.
We won big on the floor of the House. The pro-illegal-worker forces tried to strip the good provisions behind the scenes, but they seemed afraid of a roll call vote that would reveal who support s illegal aliens over unemployed American workers. .
Your calls were more powerful than an incredible array of lobbying by dozens of cheap-labor industry associations, the immigration lawyers and by the National Council of La Raza and many other pro-illegal-immigration groups.
We heard from many congressional offices that your calls overwhelmed them.
If the two E-Verify provisions in the House-passed Stimulus bill survive the Senate and White House, they should open up hundreds of thousands of jobs for American workers by blocking illegal aliens who otherwise would have been given the jobs . The House has made using E-Verify a mandatory requirement for all businesses or governments receiving Stimulus funds!

    (We are not taking a stand one way or the other on the Stimulus package itself. But if it passes, we want to make sure that it contains protections for American workers against illegal aliens getting the new jobs.)
